SECTIONAL MODEL OF VIKING LONGHOUSE
February - March 2025
This model was a part of my midterm project for Scales of Design, an interdisciplinary architectural studio course taught by Bimal Mendis. Along with my studio partner, we studied the history and construction of Viking and Norse architecture–specifically the Longhouse. The model conveys the sectional qualities of the building through 3 deconstructable segments, showing the social structure, framing, and exterior contained within the system of the Longhouse.
DIORAMA OF AN OIL BARREL
March - May 2025
The project following the Longhouse in Scales of Design led me and my partner to design a diorama within an oil barrel. The subject of our model showcased the role of the oil industry in the Arctic. We sought to draw attention to the stakeholders involved in the fracking of arctic oil in a dramatized future world–the anthropocene–where a layer of oil covers our oceans. To view the full, immersive diorama set within the semi-enclosed surface of the barrel, and in using a reflective black sheet to represent the oiled ocean, the viewer is forced to see their own reflection in the oil, implicating them as the ultimate complacent stakeholder.
