BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JR.
AUGUST - DECEMBER 2022
During 10th grade, my three closest friends and I lobbied our drama teacher for months to help us start a musical theatre club. Finally, at the beginning of our junior year, we ran our first production: Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. We ran the show on an extremely limited budget–yet still managed to create an immersive production for our school. I led our set, prop, and costume department, and helped construct a number of gothic set pieces, props (including a rose with leaves that could wilt with the slide of a switch), and custom-made costume pieces.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL JR.
AUGUST - DECEMBER 2023
The next production I helped orchestrate was Disney's High School Musical Jr. Working under the same budget constraints as Beauty and the Beast, we looked for novel ways to create multipurpose set pieces. We designed and constructed a four-sided pylon on wheels that could be spun during our short scene changes to display different grounding set elements. The four sides showcased a different section of East High: the audition board, gym, roof garden, and Sharpay's locker.
THE LITTLE MERMAID
JR.
JANUARY - MAY 2024
The final musical that I helped produce was Disney's Little Mermaid Jr. By the time we had reached our senior year of high school, we had proven the potential and interest of our school in Musical Theatre. With a slightly higher budget, I designed and manufactured a dinghy-on-wheels that could be pushed by ensemble members, a mangrove tree, and a variety of interactive marine pieces to ground the many settings.
